Seth: This was a simple song I started in L.A. and finished on the balcony of a hotel room in Paris. I always liked the very real feeling of smelling your lover’s pillowcase and missing her. I added a third verse to the song for The Red Button record, where the girl comes home at 6 o’clock (in the evening, book-ending her leaving at 6 A.M.). I liked the line about throwing her hat on the sleeping cat, but wasn’t sure of the next line: “and curls up on the floor”, but Mike loved it, saying it’s exactly the curveball Lennon would have put in it. So I left it in. Stevie Blacke’s strings on this song are beautiful.

Mike: I didn’t write this one, but as a producer and musician I had very specific ideas about how I wanted this to end up. Seth’s original demo featured a beautiful song, with a nice vibe, but it was a bit stiff. I wanted to add some organic “woodsiness” to it—that is, acoustic guitars, strings (but not too slick), and a nice, sloppy “Maggie Mae”-style rhythm section. I love this song!
